1.   Before applying any finish, wipe the surface with mineral spirits or turpentine.

2.   Both turpentine and mineral spirits are good brush cleaners, although turpentine can remove paint that has hardened slightly.

3.   After washing, painted surfaces usually can be revived by wiping them with a clean cloth dipped in a mixture of equal parts of mineral oil and mineral spirits.

4.   Clean these places with a cotton swab dipped in mineral spirits.
