1.   And, the ends of those rafters and joists are starting to deteriorate, not much but enough to look bad and not hold paint.

2.   Damp, punky wood will not hold paint, and neither will wood that is beginning to dry out and turn powdery.

5.   Of course, if the plaster has gotten wet and dry several times, it may have lost its ability to hold paint.

7.   One problem with the decay in the trim is that if it is painted, the punky wood is unlikely to hold paint.

8.   Powdering plaster cannot hold paint well, and the shellac is used to try to seal the powdering.

9.   The flagged ends of bristles enable them to hold more paint than other types of filaments.

10.   The plywood does not hold paint.
