From my own perspective,it is better not to eat on the subway.Because not only these behaviours influences others,but also it poses heavy burdent to cleaners if people follow suit.Nevertheless,I do understand the feeling of hungry,if someone is necesary to eat at the moment like babies,just eat but do remain the environment clean.
