1.  A patient seeking euthanasia must be in a hopeless medical situation and be constantly suffering physically or psychologically, the measure says.

2.  A psychiatrist must confirm the patient seeking euthanasia is not suffering a treatable clinical depression.

3.  Under the Act, patients seeking euthanasia must be diagnosed as having a terminal illness and have that diagnosis confirmed by another doctor with experience in terminal illness.

4.  Terminally ill patients from around Australia would be able to travel to the state in the northern part of the country to seek voluntary euthanasia.
