1.  Most European states joined the Council of Europe.

2.  Reports of ethnic cleansing in former Yugoslavia forced the European states and the US into taking action.

3.  Commentators noted that the switch to full hard-currency trading would badly hit the east European states.

4.  No such a vote of no confidence has never yet been passed in a west European state.

5.  Such lack of interest in any active Turkish diplomatic relationship with the European states stemmed from a deap-seated view of the world.
