51.  And neither have the American people, who lived with the Soviet threat for too long to ever seriously embrace the fantasy that Russia could ever be our friend.

52.  And they failed, because the American people did not in fact hate government, or the Democrats, or even the liberal culture.

53.  And the divide separating the American people from those who represent them in Washington has widened into a chasm. . . .

54.  And what would the American people get in return, if the gold mine is allowed?

55.  And the success of the American people in the decades ahead depends on the quality of the human capital they bring to the global economic table.

56.  And the views of that subculture have been sold to the American people.

57.  And some point to data data suggesting that the American people do not feel as secure and optimistic about the economy as jobs and income data suggest they should.

58.  And they would gain the gratitude and goodwill of the American people for having transformed energy from a crisis-prone problem to a constructive solution.

59.  And that, my friends, is why the American people will elect this decent, honorable man to lead this great country to the next American century.

60.  And the American people will be watching the leaders of both parties to see who is willing not just to talk but to act.
