11.  Khun Sa has offered on several occasions in the last two decades to stop opium and heroin production in Shan state in exchange for hundreds of millions of dollars.

12.  MTA sources reached in northern Thailand said that it was impossible to get information from Shan state as the Thai military had sealed off the border.

13.  The Burmese army appears to have launched an all-out campaign against Khun Sa, who recently declared himself president of the Shan state.

14.  The movement had declared an independent Shan state.

15.  The military has since moved against the MTA, which operates further north in Shan state.
