1.  Labor department officials charged with handling plant closings and layoffs are swamped and are even making repeat visits to some companies.

2.  The U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform is expected to recommend next month that INS be disbanded and its functions transferred to the Justice, State and Labor departments.

3.  Thursday the Labor department will not be releasing its initial weekly claims for unemployment insurance.
