1.   Soybean futures fell on predictions of only a slight drop in U.S. soybean acreage this year.

2.   The only fire that has gobbled up more acreage this year is one now burning in Oregon.

3.   The report followed one before trading yesterday that said farmers unexpectedly boosted soybean acreage this year.

4.   Wheat futures were mostly lower on a slow export outlook and on a report that Canada may increase wheat acreage this year over last.

5.   Both figures presume record acreage this year.

6.   In addition, The National Cotton Council and two independent cotton merchants have forecast an increase in cotton acreage this year over last, the company said.

7.   Soybean futures were pressured by a private forecast for only a slight decline in U.S. soybean acreage this year.

8.   The USDA report also confirmed that farmers are cutting back on overall corn acreage this year largely because of higher energy and fertilizer prices and switching to soybeans.

9.   U.S. officials have said they are not expecting such a substantial decrease in overall acreage this year.

10.   Despite an increase in acreage this year, officials have acknowledged that the annual target is unlikely to be met due to bollworm infestation and drought.
