1. As the surface water warms, it becomes less dense and its volume increases, adding moisture to the atmosphere. 2. Because water warms at a much slower rate than land, onshore breezes are chilled, effectively robbing coastal communities of springtime warmth. 3. By eliminating shade, tree removal has also allowed the water to warm, reducing the supply of microorganisms that other aquatic insects eat. 4. If it indeed reached the surface, the water would warm the air above and weaken the high-pressure cell near Easter Island. 5. In spring, both salmon and lake trout provide the game here, and as the water warms by mid-June, the warm-water species take over. 6. Its water actually warms the shore and surrounding hillsides, protecting vines during the short growing season. 7. The beach was full, its water still warm enough for swimmers and surfers. 8. The heated water in turn warms the food of which it is a part. 9. Though oysters still spawn when waters warm in the summer, the problem is now more navigable than it was a few decades ago. 10. When the water warms and the fish begin to spawn in shallow water -- say, late February and early March -- fishing will be much better. |
