1.   Defillo of the New Orleans police said officers decide on a case-by-case basis whether to take an out-of-state traffic violator to jail.

2.   In Phoenix, violators are taken to a recreation center until a parent picks them up.

3.   In Phoenix, officers take curfew violators to one of four recreation centers run by the Parks and Recreation Department.

4.   Police take violators to a special detention center and telephone their homes.

5.   For a third offense, the violator would be taken to court.
