1.   Drivers were stranded hopelessly in their cars, while parade-goers walked around, in front of and sometimes over their vehicles.

2.   A storm plastered the Northeast with heavy, wet snow Monday, stranding drivers, knocking out power and closing schools from Pennsylvania to New Hampshire.

3.   Drivers were stranded in parts of Scotland and northern England as snow blocked roads and the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant in northwest England was snowed in by drifts.

4.   Icy conditions in northeast Kansas caused at least one traffic-related death and stranded drivers.

5.   The Red Cross said several more drivers were stranded in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and other European countries in similar circumstances.
