1.   Many states now do long-term revenue projections, and both California and Florida prepare serious spending forecasts.

2.   The state has done well during her governorship.

3.   It is not for me to say what the states should do although I have a personal view.

4.   Although Indiana did not use the test to promote students, as many states do, the scores gave politicians and educators a yardstick to measure student progress.

5.   Although other southern states did the same, South Carolina is the only one still flying the flag of resistance.

6.   Although a state may permit abortion, nothing in the Constitution dictates that a state must do so. . . .

7.   And although the administration has demanded that the Arab states do their bit by denouncing terrorism, it has not formally brought them into the peace negotiations.

8.   And Broomfield has ruled that the state can do that, but only as a conscious decision of the Legislature or the people through an initiative or referendum.

9.   And many said they believed there were better things the state could do with taxpayer dollars.

10.   And, by the way, my state is doing just fine.
