1.   A flywheel could then absorb that energy and store it as momentum in the spinning disk, and give it back again when wanted.

2.   All floppy drives make mistakes when the data to be recorded does not arrive in time as the spinning disk moves to its next position.

3.   It provides a kind of expansion of the little window in the CD player that gives you a teasing glimpse of the spinning disk within.
