1.   Among those voting Saturday was the former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, an indicted war criminal, who cast his ballot in the Serb stronghold of Pale.

2.   A search-and-rescue operation, almost certainly involving NATO aircraft, has been mounted near Banja Luka, a Serb stronghold in the north.

3.   But not everyone in this Serb stronghold agreed.

4.   Croatian government officials were even less circumspect, calling on Monday for the capture of the northeastern Serb stronghold.

5.   In Mitrovica, the Serb stronghold in Kosovo, his appearance at the hustings drew a hail of rotten tomatoes, potatoes and other smelly vegetables.

6.   In the rebel Serb stronghold of Pale, the mood was similarly quiet Saturday.

7.   Mortar grenades looped over their roof from Serb strongholds into Old Town.

8.   The Bosnian army halted an attack on a critical supply route linking the Serb stronghold of Pale with the garrison in Lukavica.

9.   UN spokesman Fred Eckhard said Croatian forces had captured a vantage point overlooking the Serb stronghold on Sunday and that there were some casualities.

10.   While they do that, they also keep alert for Serb sympathizers who regularly stone their vehicles as they drive through Serb strongholds in Macedonia, such as Kumanovo.
