1.   And later that day, they said Ms. Lewinsky testified, Ms. Currie went to her apartment to retrieve the gifts.

2.   And then came White House deputy counsel Cheryl D. Mills, who effectively rebutted charges that Clinton obstructed justice by ordering Currie to retrieve gifts from Lewinsky.

3.   But the president in his testimony on Monday adamantly denied telling Ms. Currie or anyone else to retrieve the gifts, said a lawyer familiar with the testimony.

4.   Clinton lawyers will stress that neither Lewinsky nor Currie, who at one point retrieved the gifts, say Clinton ordered it as alleged by House prosecutors.

5.   Currie would be questioned about whether Clinton sought to influence her grand jury testimony and whether he told her to retrieve gifts he gave to Lewinsky.

6.   Currie has testified that Lewinsky called her, and both Currie and Clinton have testified that the president did not direct his secretary to retrieve the gifts.

7.   Currie left it unclear whether Clinton asked her to retrieve the gifts.

8.   Currie retrieved the gifts and stashed them under her bed.

9.   Currie also retrieved several gifts that Clinton had given Lewinsky, an action that prosecutors have suggested was performed at his behest and might have constituted obstruction of justice.

10.   Foley said he was also concerned that Clinton attempted to obstruct justice by having his secretary, Betty Currie, retrieve the gifts from Lewinsky.
