1.   At the Honolulu meeting, Japan was one of five countries that voted against a U.S. proposal for a commission to regulate tuna fishing in the region.

2.   In the fishing case, Alaska is challenging a ruling that said the Interior Department has the right to regulate subsistence fishing in most Alaska waters.

3.   The talks are intended to move the two sides closer to agreement on how to regulate fishing in the sea between the two countries.

4.   With neither side willing to back down, South Korea and Japan again failed to agree Friday on how to regulate fishing in the sea between their two countries.
