1. Among the ideas that scholars and politicians have been debating are a rotating series of regional primaries, a national primary and primaries organized by time zone. 2. Another alternative, one many big states prefer, would be rotating regional primaries, with a different bloc of states going first every four years. 3. A regional primary would be different, particularly a region in which Arizona is a major player. 4. A series of regional presidential primaries would be scheduled on the first Tuesday in March, April, May and June. 5. A regional primary would benefit the region. 6. But four or five regional primaries, each held a week after its repesentative state event, would add breadth and depth to the season. 7. California Secretary of State William Jones said Monday in a statement that he endorsed the general idea of rotating regional primaries. 8. California hopes to persuade Washington and Oregon to create a West Coast regional primary on the same day. 9. Controlled regional primaries, spread out over four months in a rotating sequence every four years, might be a logical compromise. 10.
