1.   The IPC opened sharply lower on U.S. stock losses, but recovered ground as the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq composite index pulled off intraday lows.

2.   The U.S. currency, however, recovered ground as the Bank of Japan bought dollars to curb the slide and continued to gain ground in New York.

3.   Brokers said share prices opened lower following losses on Wall Street but subsequently recovered ground on futures-linked buying along with bargain hunting in international blue chips.

4.   Compatriot Lartigue suffered a similar fate, but recovered ground to keep his hopes of winning the rally alive.
