1.   Because the pencils, sometimes called putty sticks, are colored, you must repaint the wall.

2.   Putty sticks come in many colors, and you should be able to get a better match to the vinyl than with the wood filler.

3.   So even better is to fill the gap with a putty stick, a wax-like pencil-crayon.

4.   The putty stick does not harden completely, but it will not be so soft that it comes off on your feet.

5.   This wax-filling should last for years, but the putty stick is a harder wax than the crayon, so should last longer.

6.   You could also buy a putty stick, sold in hardware and paint stores, made of a hard wax.
