1.   Antarctic blizzards are triggered when pockets of cold air roll off the polar plateau and rush across the ice shelf.

2.   As the men descended the polar plateau, temperatures rose, and they enjoyed warmer-than-normal, above-zero weather for over a week.

3.   Both men planned to ski uphill to the polar plateau, then to the South Pole and finally to McMurdo Sound on the opposite side of the continent.
