1.   Among those put to death were people convicted of tax fraud, smuggling, and credit card theft.

2.   Also, people convicted of a felony or two or more misdemeanors while in the United States or those barred from asylum are not eligible.

3.   Existing laws restrict gun ownership by felons, the mentally incompetent and people convicted of domestic violence, among others.

4.   Fourteen people convicted in relation to the Wenatchee sex-abuse investigations remain in prison.

5.   In fact, many of these are former dissidents, or people convicted under Communist-era laws against homosexuality, business, free travel or distribution of bibles.

7.   People convicted of out-of-state sex offenses now must register as sex offenders when in California, under legislation that Gov. Pete Wilson has signed into law.

8.   People convicted of any felony, or of any of several misdemeanors including assault, threatening and stalking, would be barred from owning handguns.

9.   People convicted under the law face harsh penalties up to life in prison.

10.   The bill would expand the database, allowing the state to gather samples from all violent felons and people convicted of several other kinds of crimes.
