1. As well as seeing how whisky is made, visitors to the Glenfiddich Distillery can see coopers making oak casks. 2. Clarets are aged in stainless steel vats or oak casks, and are bottled only when they are considered ready for sale. 3. Many of these molecules seeped into the initially crystal-clear whisky from the oak casks in which the liquor was aged. 4. Light whisky is stored in seasoned charred oak casks, which impart little colour or flavour. 5. Scotch whisky must be matured in oak casks for a period of not less than three years. 6. Anejo tequilas, reminiscent of cognac in both color and taste, are aged in oak casks for as long as five years. 7. In a large, cool basement, whiskey is aged in oak casks. 8. In addition, inventory must often be stored for years in costly oak casks and air-conditioned cellars before it is ready to sell. 9. In contrast, at Brotherhood the tasting rooms and the cellars are massive but welcoming with rough-hewn wood beams and giant oak casks. 10. In the case of reserve or super-premium sparklers, fermentation takes place in whole or in part in large oak casks. |
