1.   All the needles have dropped off.

2.   If you bounce the tree lightly on the ground, only a few needles should drop.

3.   Needles dropped off, small roots began to die, and eventually whole trees toppled over.

4.   Other evergreens have other schedules, and not every needle will drop on time anyway.
