1. Native grasses usually have insufficient nutritional value as they provide considerably less protein. 2. An annual that puts all its energy into seeds, cheatgrass easily outcompetes native perennial grasses and sagebrush when the land is disturbed. 3. And both, if developed, will supplant live oaks and native grasses with massive urban sprawl, greatly affecting neighbors with little say-so in their development. 4. And another native grass, Tridens flavus, called purpletop for its red-purple blooms, promptly seeded into the bare patches. 5. And overgrazing thinned native grasses. 6. Away on every side rolled an infinitude of splendid country -- the stubble of harvested grainfields, old hedgerows, tan meadows of native grass. 7. But native grasses have many applications in the landscape, where they are being deliberately placed in increasing numbers by both professional and do-it-yourself gardeners. 8. By June, the team will have planted tens of thousands of native grasses, shrubs and trees. 9.
