1. Specialized intertidal communities of enormous significance are the mangrove forests of the tropics. 2. The mangrove forest in the region has already been reduced by half. 3. There are the giant mangrove forests at the mouth of the Ganges, where a few Bengal tigers still flourish. 4. These forests vary in character from closed forests to open woodlands and include mangrove forests that occur in coastal regions. 5. A thick mantle of mangrove forests covers much of the area today, but the forlorn ruins of a few temples and platforms defy the gnarled roots and trees. 6. Contoy is a long, low comma, covered mostly in mangrove forest. 7. Displays include mangrove forests, seagrass beds, coral reefs and exotic creatures found from the coasts of South Carolina to the Pacific Ocean. 8. Environmentalists have lambasted shrimp farmers in recent years, contending that their practices have decimated mangrove forests from Central America to Thailand. 9. In the course of the afternoon, our boat passed through magnificent stands of mangrove forest. 10. Many of the islands are virtual deserts, while others are more lush with large mangrove forests. |
