1.   David Ervine, whose small loyalist party is closely linked to the Ulster Volunteer Force, said he was encouraged by what the British and Irish prime ministers said.

2.   Even if the Ulster Unionists and two loyalist parties enter the talks, two other unionist parties refuse to meet with Sinn Fein under any circumstances.

3.   It is one of two loyalist parties engaged in the peace talks with six other parties, including Sinn Fein, the political arm of the Irish Republican Army.
