1.   The cancellation followed the defection of a North Korean judo competitor, Lee Chang Soo, who sought asylum in an undisclosed South Korean embassy in Europe.

2.   A Cuban judo competitor received only a reprimand after testing positive for a banned diuretic.

3.   An Algerian boxer and an Egyptian judo competitor had their golds suspended and three others who did not win medals were disqualified.

4.   Walid Al Awazen of Jordan became the second judo competitor disqualified for showing up late for his weigh-in.
