1.   The abdomen was opened and the stomach was exposed to assess the mucosal blood flow at the ulcer margin, ulcer bed, and adjacent intact mucosa.

2.   The ratio of radioactivity of ulcer area v intact mucosa was calculated for each group of rats.

3.   The ratio of the radioactivity bound to the ulcerated and to the intact mucosa was calculated for each group of animals of the B series.

4.   There were small but measurable amounts of bFGF bound to the intact mucosa and treatment with sucralfate for seven days did not significantly influence this.

5.   A similar distribution of labelled FGF between the ulcer area and the intact mucosa was found after in vitro exposure and these results have not been included.

6.   Treatment with sucralfate alone did not significantly alter DNA synthesis and the concentrations of nucleic acid in the ulcer margin or in the adjacent intact mucosa.
