1.   Bankruptcies may soar among retailers, transportation companies, banks and brokerages whose incomes will fall as the government slowly unravels laws that inhibited free competition.

2.   But the government contended that the deal still amounted to a takeover that would inhibit competition between the two carriers on nine critical routes.

4.   In particular, Okadome and others say, Japanese journalism is weakened by tax codes and other legal favors that inhibit competition among newspapers and help keep them tame.

8.   The antitrust issue arises if a dominant company, like Microsoft, uses exclusive contracts with suppliers or customers to inhibit competition, antitrust experts said.
