1.   In the chronic therapy of hypercalcemia caused by increased bone resorption or increased intestinal calcium absorption glucocorticoids are effective.

2.   As expected, increased dietary calcium increased the total calcium in faeces and this was only slightly stimulated by phosphate supplementation of the high calcium diet.

3.   Increased dietary calcium increased faecal phosphate because the formation of insoluble calcium phosphate inhibits the absorption of phosphate.

4.   Increased dietary calcium drastically increased the faecal excretion of fatty acids, which has also been found in other studies.

5.   While increased dietary calcium may increase faecal calcium and the concentration of the bile acid deoxycholate in man, colonic mucosal proliferation may remain unaffected.
