1.   Brooks wrote the state humanities council to request a grant for producing an opera at DCI.

2.   Humanities councils nationwide are trying to counteract our sound bite era by sponsoring events that encourage civic dialogue and thinking.

3.   Similar encyclopedias are under way for Georgia, South Carolina and West Virginia, and eventually every state will have one, each done with state humanities councils.

4.   The humanities councils provide the tent, the equipment and the scholar-actors.
