1.   Hatch said a half dozen fellow Senate Republicans have agreed to cosponsor his bill and he is hopeful others will do so.

2.   Hatch said he believes the agreement is fixable and addresses a number of fronts.

3.   Hatch said he interpreted the statute more broadly, but added that he was unaware of the law when he voted to confirm Judge Morris Arnold.

4.   Hatch said he knows of just one GOP senator on the panel, Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, who plans to vote for Lee.

6.   Hatch said helping keep children from taking up smoking is a primary thrust of his legislation.

7.   Hatch said many of the Clinton-appointed nominees who were confirmed by the Senate have since rendered judicial rulings he regards as excessively liberal.

8.   Hatch said on Thursday that he believed judges were not overloaded with work.

9.   Hatch said that helping keep children from taking up smoking is a primary thrust of his legislation.

10.   Hatch said that the committee would approve the nomination next week and that Olson would meet with Democratic senators in the next few days to reiterate his position.
