1.   Many farmers are refusing to harvest the cane.

2.   And the Flo-Sun companies have already started harvesting cane.

3.   But delaying the harvest means less cane will be harvested if a heavy rain or freeze strikes later this season, said U.S. Sugar Senior Vice President Bob Buker.

4.   In the fall the cane was harvested, loaded onto a wagon pulled by two mules, and hauled to one of the syrup mills in the community.

5.   It was at this time that the earliest settlers here in East Texas harvested their cane.

6.   With African slaves to harvest the cane, they lived like grandees.

7.   They found poorly paid workers demanding bribes to harvest cane.

8.   The cane is harvested in January and February and begins regrowing in April.
