1.   After the Senate vote, Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson granted royal assent to the treaty, effectively making it law.

2.   The first agreement of its kind in British Columbia passed into law later in the day with Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson granting royal assent.

3.   It will amount to her Friday granting royal assent to a bill providing for Tainui compensation.

4.   Mutua said the KUJ would petition Moi not to grant assent to the new measures and, failing that, take the matter up in the Constitutional Court.
