2.   Galvanized coatings, designed to prevent steel nails from rusting, also enhance grip by increasing surface area and roughness.

3.   In addition to the lumber, you will also need rust-resist nails made of aluminum or stainless steel, or nails with a galvanized coating.

4.   Milled-face hammers are good for driving galvanized nails because the rough face pattern will not rub the galvanized coating off the nails.

5.   Their main drawback is that unless they are properly maintained, the galvanized coating will eventually wear through and the gutters will rust.
