1. As they did during previous hostage releases, Serbian security officials kept reporters away from the freed peacekeepers. 2. Freed U.N. peacekeepers complained Thursday of harsh treatment at the hands of their rebel captors and said injured peacekeepers still being held are not being given medical attention. 3. Near Pendembu, the freed peacekeepers linked up with another U.N. contingent which fought its way up from the south. 4. Reporters were kept away from the freed peacekeepers, but had a brief opportunity to shout questions as they crossed the border. 5. The freed peacekeepers said they could not give any figures because the captives are being held in several different places. 6. The group of freed peacekeepers and U.N. military observers included soldiers from France, Britain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Poland and Nepal. 7. The freed peacekeepers are expected to be stationed in the eastern town of Daru. 8. The freed peacekeepers, all from Zambia, said their captive colleagues are not receiving proper medical treatment at the rebel camps and villages in eastern Sierra Leone. |
