1.   And on another subject that Davis has set forth a strict policy, he vetoed eight bills Wednesday that he said would expand gambling in the state.

2.   In California, exit polls and early returns indicated that voters were broadly supporting a measure to expand casino gambling on Indian tribal lands.

3.   In the past, a majority politians of both parties have consistently refused to expand gambling.

4.   Lawmakers are scheduled to take up the issue Tuesday, when the joint Committee on Government Regulations considers a slew of bills to expand gambling.

5.   Only state Comptroller John Sharp, an ex-officio member of the commission, said he opposed it on the basis that it expanded gambling.
