1.   Shortly before his death, the emir had met with U.S. Defense Secretary William Cohen.

2.   The Qatari emir met Friday in Paris with his father who he deposed two years ago, the Arab daily Al-Hayat said Saturday.

3.   The emir also met with his father in Rome last month, two months after settling a dispute over billions of dollars in missing state funds.

4.   The Kuwaiti emir met Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for a second time during his visit to Cairo.
