1.   As the warm air tries to dislodge colder air near the surface, areas of clouds will form from the eastern Dakotas to the northern Great Lakes.

2.   As warmer air attempts to dislodge cold air in place over the upper Middle West, clouds and widely separated snow showers will develop.

3.   But the clockwise circulation of air around the highs can dislodge dry air from over the desert plateau of the Southwest.

4.   Chilly air will be dislodged from central Canada, setting the stage for the coldest air mass of the season to spread southeastward across the western Great Lakes region.

5.   Farther north, a band of clouds will slide across northern New England as warmer air tries to dislodge chillier air in place.

6.   However, severe icing only occurs when either the frigid air cannot be dislodged or gelid surface air is replenished from a new source.

7.   Meanwhile, areas of freezing rain and pockets of snow will glaze parts of eastern Washington as Pacific air tries to dislodge Arctic air.

8.   Wintry weather will affect parts of the northern Plains as milder air from the south tries to dislodge Arctic air.
