1.   Constitutional affairs minister G.L. Peiris said the government was keen to have a formal truce in place before the current cessation of hostilities expired.

2.   UN officials described the incident as a violation by the Bosnian army of the current cessation of hostilities and said a protest will be lodged with the military.

3.   Kumaratunga has expressed the hope that the current cessation of hostilities agreed between Tiger rebels and security forces would lead to opening of negotiations on a political package.
