Already, criminal background checks had been on the rise as businesses sought to mitigate their exposure to negligent-hiring lawsuits. 4. Also at issue are provisions requiring maritime workers to pass criminal background checks similar to those now imposed on most airport employees. 5. And Delaware has expanded its criminal background checks to cover babysitters so that the new working women can kiss their babies goodbye with confidence as they leave each morning. 6. Another bill allows the Social Service Department to do criminal background checks on some people hired with state subsidies to provide child care for welfare recipients. 7. Another provision of the bill would require airport workers with access to restricted areas to undergo criminal background checks. 8. Applicants who are not US citizens will not be eligible, and neither will those with criminal backgrounds. 9. Applicants should be able to speak English, and they should be subject to criminal background checks. 10. Arrests and convictions are continuing, but few of the suspects arrested in the past year have had the usual criminal backgrounds. |
