1.   Blind pathological review of the colectomy specimens showed no correlation between histological category and the presence or absence of RP.

2.   For example, colectomy specimens were classified as definite ulcerative colitis as frequently in RP as in controls.

3.   Two patients who had been negative for dysplasia were found to have low grade dysplasia in their colectomy specimens.

4.   Two patients were believed to have had proctitis but were subsequently found to have total colitis at colonoscopy with biopsy or histological examination of the colectomy specimen.

5.   At laparotomy none of the patients had macroscopic evidence of small bowel or perianal disease, and the colectomy specimens all showed macroscopic features of continuous colitis.
