1.   As he walked across the hall, the boards creaked beneath his feet.

2.   He crawled on hand and knees across the landing, the ancient boards creaking beneath him.

3.   The central heating was coming on and the ancient wooden boards creaked.

4.   And, the boards are creaking when I walk on them.
