1. Research interest during the last two decades has been focused on the metabolism of biliary lipids and its effect on gall stone formation. 2. Biliary lipid composition was not altered significantly but bicarbonate output was increased at all doses tested. 3. More recent studies have shown that hepatic denervation causes significant changes in the biliary lipid composition. 4. Cholesterol nucleation time, biliary lipid concentration, vesicular cholesterol distribution, and biliary protein concentration were measured and compared. 5. The Table shows the differences in biliary lipid composition and total protein concentration between the cholesterol gall stone patients and the gall stone free patients. 6. In gall bladder bile, no significant differences were seen between the two groups in the concentrations of biliary lipid and total lipid. |
