1.   Amnesty International opposes abuses by opposition groups - hostage taking, torture and killing of prisoners and other arbitrary killings.

2.   -- In Europe, the report pointed to arbitrary killings in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Serbs, Muslims and Croats are battling for territory and supremacy.

3.   The Russian military has been accused of random detentions of Chechen civilians, arbitrary killings and demanding bribes for the release of imprisoned Chechens and even for dead bodies.

4.   A host of other accusations taint the military, including alleged arbitrary killings and torture in several provinces that harbor small bands of separatist rebels.

5.   Human rights group accuse the military of widespread abuses, including the arbitrary killing, torture and rape of civilians.

6.   Islamic separatists have been fighting for independence there and the army has also been accused of human rights abuses there, including torture and arbitrary killings.
