1.   Through his museum connections Stan knew Dr Alec Panchen, a reader in the Department of Zoology at Newcastle University who was an expert on animal fossils.

2.   In Southern California recently, archaeologists discovered an unprecedented number of ice age animal fossils while building a reservoir.

3.   Animal fossils also were found on the site.

4.   The find stems from the discovery four years ago of ankle and foot bones mistakenly labeled animal fossils at the University of the Witwatersrand.

5.   Animal fossils were rare in Hong Kong because suitable sedimentary rock was only found in a few areas, the experts said.
