1.   Brook said Intel will now bear the huge cost of maintaining and upgrading the Alpha fab, leaving Digital free to focus on improving and marketing Alpha technology.

2.   But Compaq, which actually owns the Alpha technology, is continuing to upgrade and enhance the chip.

3.   Digital will retain ownership of Alpha technology.

4.   Digital had alleged that Intel used patented Alpha technology in the design of its popular Pentium family of chips.

5.   In return, Digital would drop its patent-infringement lawsuit that accuses Intel of stealing Alpha technology to help create its best-selling line of Pentium chips.

6.   It would also put to rest litigation between the companies in which Digital accuses Intel of using the Alpha technology to create some of its best-selling Pentium processors.
