1. The action sequences are the best part of the film. 2. The Jam and Lewis soundtrack powers up some fairly physical action sequences, and there is a surprising amount of killings. 3. Although the action sequences are lively, they zip by too fast to build up much cliffhanging excitement. 4. And each action sequence builds on what has come before, increasing the stakes with a dignified hilarity. 5. And the bold, sweeping inventiveness of action sequences, the one thing that American movies consistently do well, has grown over the years. 6. Another, more obvious way the series has won a larger audience is by jacking up the action sequences. 8. Before we get there, though, they also contrive a tight, gripping action sequence not in the book, set in a busy train station. 9. Both movies have epic naval battles and that furious chariot race, which in the later film has been called the greatest action sequence ever. 10. Abrams juggles the wit and earnestness pretty credibly, and the action sequences are undeniably exciting. |
