51.   Burma says the honorary consul died from a heart attack in hospital, after being sentenced to three years in prison for illegal possession of fax machines and telephones.

52.   Denmark has been pressing unsuccessfuly for EU sanctions against Burma since the death earlier this year in custody of its honorary consul James Nichols.

53.   Denmark on Monday appealed to its European Union partners to take concrete action against Burma following the death in custody of its honorary consul in Rangoon.

54.   The statement also apologised to Robert Pearce, the honorary French consul in Western Australia.

55.   Norway, Finland and Denmark also expressed concern about the death of Nichols, who had served as their honorary consul in Burma.
